I’m a GTA-based multidisplinary designer interested in product design and brand identities. 	Project Overview

To design a branding campaign to encourage young women to learn about their contraceptive health and resources.&#38;nbsp;
The Problem
There lacks a general education on women’s health, especially with the topic of contraception. This stems from cultural and social factors that has influenced the way we view women’s bodies and placed a stigma placed towards their health and resources avaliable to them.

The Solution&#38;nbsp;︎︎︎

Bloom is a branding campaign that eduates young women about the contraceptive resources available to them and encourages them to make informed decisions about their health.

Phase 01: Research&#38;nbsp;︎︎︎

Identifying the design problem and conducting research on existing materials.&#38;nbsp;

	Research Study
	 Throughout history, there has been a stigma placed towards women’s health and made topics such as contraception hard to discuss freely in society. By conducting a research study, I wanted to explore social and cultural factors that have affected the perception of women’s health and break down barriers to the stigmatization of women’s health education. A literature report was then done to dissect the primary research done on how the public views the contraceptive pill. 



	Research Plan
	Reoccuring factors from the literature report became themes that were used to conduct secondary research with recruited participants. This consisted of a Google survey and interviews on Zoom conducted with selected participants. Data was recorded through note-taking on a password device and with informed ongoing consent from participants.For the target participants of the study, I had a specific audience of young women aged 18-24. I chose this age range as the focus group as I wanted to specifically study how young women perceived the pillView Full Research Study Report

Phase 02: Visual Identity︎︎︎ 
Developing a visual identity that is coheret and represents the brand’s message.

	Logo and Tagline
	“Bloom” was chosen to represent this branding campaign as flowers have long been connected with femininity. They mirror feminine biology and growth of reproduction. Bloom builds on this association and seeks to encourage young women to flourish and develop a sense of self-confidence in their bodies.

	Visual Elements
	Flowers are a main visual point that is used reflect the brand name and message. Simple abstract icons are used to create imagery that attracts the youthful and nostalgic audience.

	Posters are designed to promote the importance of contraceptive methods and Bloom’s Instagram account as the primary tool for simplified information.

	Social Media
	Bloom uses Instagram as the primary platform for users to get more detailed information on contraceptives and other health resources. It was chosen due to the younger demographic target audience, who typically spend more time on their phones and social media. The accessibility of Instagram allows users to be exposed to information on a daily basis. Bloom’s feed is simple and summarized, making medical information more digestible for users who may not have the time to research on their own time.

	Promotional Event
	A partnered FROSH stand event will be held on post-secondary campuses for Bloom to promote the brand to new and returning students. This event will consist of brand ambassadors who will hand out promotional wearables, items and provide a community for students to learn about the resources available to them.

	Promotional Items


	Wearable products are designed to be handed out to students passing by the FROSH stands. The products promote the message of intimacy and the importance of staying informed of the contraceptive methods avaliable to them.Condoms are a inclusive product that can be handed out to all students, encouraging the use of contraceptives. Condoms are typically marketed as a male product. With bloom’s visuals, they are used to attract the female audiences, with floral based visuals. This serves as method of encouraging woman to take control of their contraceptive health.

The Toronto Design Festival is an annual event that celebrates design as a multidisciplinary form of thinking and making through 100+ events and exhibitions. The challenge is to redesign an visual identity for the festival and apply it consistently through both print and digital platforms. Deliverables should include English and French, giving equal treatment to both.&#38;nbsp;

	Visual Identity
	The blue color palette portrays a calm yet imaginative state in viewers. It is a timeless color and can be used across both print and digital platforms seamlessly. The colors and grid-like background takes inspiration from the anatomy of blueprint paper, which is mainly used as a basis for planning and designing big ideas. For many designers, having a vision and&#38;nbsp;executing a idea comes from a simple sketch. I wanted to emphasize this through the color palette and simple visual icons, which celebrate the different art forms at DesignTO.

	Project Overview
To create a tablet-based app to connect seniors living at a long-term care home with their family members. The app should enhance the everyday lives of these individuals and allow for easy navigation for both audiences.
The ProblemMany seniors in long-term care homes are finding it increasingly difficult to regularly communicate with their family and to motivate themselves to take care of their own wellbeing. With the current pandemic, it has made communication even harder for these individuals and placed a burden on family members to reach out more.






The Solution&#38;nbsp;︎︎︎Kin is a communication-based app that aims to improve senior mental health, communication and productivity.&#38;nbsp;

	Phase 01: Research&#38;nbsp;︎︎︎
As a family-focus app, research was done to understand the larger audience.&#38;nbsp;




	Initial Research
	Due to the larger target audience,&#38;nbsp; an P.A.C.T Analysis was done to determine the needs and concerns of the primary and secondary audiences. A Benchmark Analysis was done to see what needed to be improved on within the market. The MOSCOW Method was done to determine the goals and intentions of our application. This allowed us to understand what concerns to focus on throughout the process of designing.&#38;nbsp;

	
	


	User Personas
	User personas were created to understand the different scenarios our senior and family members may encounter in their everyday lives. These were then applied to specific User Scenarios which helped us to focus on the features and interactions.&#38;nbsp;

	After creating user scenarios, these interactions were translated into different pages of the application. By creating a system map with each intended feature, it helped us to map out the entire application and refer back to it when designing initial wireframes.

Phase 03: User Testing&#38;nbsp;︎︎︎Testing the app with potential users to study their behaviours and see if it has fulfilled it’s objectives.


	User Testing Plan
	We reached out to testers ranging from 14-70 years old, to consider both spectrums of our target audience. Before conducting user testing, we came up with a User-Test Plan with proposed scenarios and objectives. Testing was done through Zoom and in-person sessions with observations being recorded for further analysis. Post-testing questions were asked for additional feedback on the overall function and appeal of the app. After the interviews, we analyzed the results and applied the proposed changes based on our user’s feedback.

 

	Proposed Changes
	A majority of our feedback was on the complexity of the home navigation and adjusting text/buttons larger for the senior user.

	Style Guide
	Making sure that our visual design was accessible was crucial as we wanted to deliver an enjoyable experience for our senior audience. This meant that we had to consider color blindness and vision impairment conditions.The color scheme used throughout the application was carefully considered to be accessible for senior members with color blindness. Typography choices were made for clear legibility and contrast for our senior audience to easily read.

	Project Overview
To design a smart device that will solve an existing medical issue in today’s age. It should offer utility and enhance the everyday lives of individuals with the help of a partnering app. 



The Problem
Office workers and students typically sit an average of 6+ hours a day with little to no breaks. Bad posture has become one of the most common health problems that people struggle within their everyday lives. When left untreated, poor posture can lead to greater risks that affect people of all ages. With the current climate of the pandemic forcing workers and students to work from home, it has resulted in even higher rates of back pain.







	
The Solution&#38;nbsp;︎︎︎
Forme&#38;nbsp;is a smart device created to build better posture habits. Paired with the companion app, it alerts users when their sitting posture needs to be fixed.

Phase 01: Research ︎︎︎
Conducting research to understand the pain points and needs of our target audience.



	Initial Research
	Firstly, we had understood how our design problem was relevant within today’s climate and research existing solutions on the market. By creating a Competitive Analysis, we gained a deeper understanding of the current market and pinpointed major pain points. A PACT analysis was to analyze the daily factors affecting our target audience and allowed us to create a solution that was catered to our audience.

Narrowing down the target audience, we deteremined that our users with bad back posture would spend a majority of their time sitting at their desks for work/school. These users would typically be in post-secondary or entering the professional field, in their 20s-40s.&#38;nbsp;

Phase 02: Visual Identity ︎︎︎
Applying an visual system as the face of the brand.

We wanted our brand’s visual identity to express a bright and friendly feeling while still looking professional. Through vivid colors and light-hearted illustrations, we created a welcoming tone for users.

	Branding Campaign
	To promote Forme, our team designed a website, social media ads and posters to reach a larger audience in various environments. The website would act as the main marketing asset and central platform for users to get additional information on the product and app.&#38;nbsp;

Phase 03: The Device&#38;nbsp;︎︎︎

Visualizing the solution through device prototypes.&#38;nbsp;




	Forme Device
	Our smart device focuses on comfortability by considering cushion material, massage features and sensor pressure points to track the user’s posture.&#38;nbsp;
Non-Invasive and Easily Adaptable

Forme comes with 3 types of attachment methods: magnet, adhesive, and chord. For maximum comfort, the device itself is a cushion and has flexible backing, making it easy to attach to any type of chair.

LiDAR and Pressure Sensor Technology

Pressure sensors are used to measure the amount of pressure that is being applied when the user is leaning on the device. This tracks the user’s position throughout the day. When not leaning on the device, the LiDAR sensors work to create an in-depth scan of the user’s posture. When connected to our companion app, this data is used to notify the user that they need to fix their posture.

	User Flow Chart
	Our team began creating a user-flow chart to indicate the different interactions that would be taken. This helped to us to plan each page of the application and work towards the final interface screens.&#38;nbsp;

A finalized app that is paired with the Forme device to track and improve user’s posture.

The app guides the user through a simple onboarding process where they input information, connect their forme device and other preferred devices for a seamless experience.

Correct your posture in a matter of seconds.

Once the device is connected to the app, it’s liDAR and pressure sensors are able to detect the user’s sitting position in real-time. When improper posture is detected, it will notify the user and the live feedback feature will pop-up to guide them to perfect posture.&#38;nbsp;

Daily stats are provided for users to observe their posture habits. It will display current posture habits, total seating time, seating periods, and good vs poor posture. The trends page provides users with their posture habits over longer periods.&#38;nbsp;
